The REACH-DL is a high school lab kit designed for A&P classes. The kit contains the sensors, recording software, and write-ups to perform over 15 core experiments introducing your students to the fundamentals of cardiovascular, neuromuscular and respiratory physiology.
Each exercise is laid out in a step-by-step, simple-to-use fashion, allowing your students to perform hands-on experiments, easily analyze their findings, and generate a report.
REACH-DL includes:
The REACH-DL system is keyed to the HAPS Learning Goals and Outcomes.
Labs that can be performed with this system:
Quick Start |
Quick Start: Learn how to use LabScribeDL and the iWorx systems using pulse. |
Heart |
ECG – Rest & Recovery: Record an Electrocardiogram (ECG) and study the effects of exercise on an ECG and pulse. |
ECG – Exercise & O2 Saturation: Record an Electrocardiogram (ECG) and O2 Saturation and examine the relationship between the ECG and the percentage of O2 in the blood. |
ECG – Temperature & Arm Position: Record an Electrocardiogram (ECG) and examine the relationship of the ECG to the peripheral circulation. |
Diving Reflex: Study the mammalian diving reflex and the effect on pulse. |
Muscle |
Grip Force: Measure EMG Grip Force. Study the effect of fatigue. |
Muscles in Opposition: Measure EMGs from antagonistic muscle groups. |
Electrooculogram (EOG): Measure Electrooculogram (EOG) and study muscle activity while doing a variety of different tasks including pursuit and saccades. |
Electrogastrogram (EGG): Compare Electrogastrogram (EGG) on an empty and full stomach. |
Targeted Exercise: Measure EMG in ‘active’ muscle groups to make sure that the exercise routine is being done properly. |
Reflexes |
Eyes vs. Ears: The study of whether sight or sound stimuli cause a faster reaction time. |
Color Test: Measure reaction times to visual stimuli of different colors. |
Breathing |
Rest & Recovery: Measure breathing depth and rate at rest and during recovery from exercise. |
Exercise & O2 Saturation: Measure breathing depth and rate, and O2 saturation at rest and during recovery from exercise. |
Breathing & Body Position: Examine the effects of gravity on breathing by measuring the differences in breathing depth and rate while resting and while sitting, standing, or lying down. |
Activities & O2 Saturation: Measure oxygen saturation levels in the blood during normal breathing, apnea, shallow breathing, and other parameters. |
Psychology |
EEG – Cortical Arousal: Study the relationship between EEG and Cortical Arousal |
Stroop Effect: Interference of Stimuli on Associative Tasks |
