Overview

Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) are voltage fluctuations time-locked to a sensory, cognitive, or motor event. One of the most widely studied ERP components is the P300, a positive-going waveform that typically occurs around 300 ms after an infrequent or significant stimulus.

The P300 is most clearly elicited using an oddball paradigm, where the subject is presented with a series of frequent “standard” stimuli and rare “oddball” stimuli. By averaging many trials, the P300 response becomes clear due to the brain’s detection of novelty or change. The IX-ERP macro is configured to deliver 50 oddball events, ensuring sufficient averaging to reveal a distinct P300 peak.

  • Automatically place marks in the record when stimuli are presented using Macros.
  • Play sounds or display images and videos as part of predefined experimental protocols.
  • Use marks to quickly locate events or selections of interest.
  • Set pre-stimulus and post-stimulus periods.
  • Use up to six cursors for measurements.
  • Set the baseline to zero, prestimulus mean, or mean.
  • Calculate responses as Max, Min, Mean, or Max–Min within a selected region.
  • Export data tables, calculations, and graphs.
  • Export raw data in text, EDF, or MATLAB formats for post-processing in EEG analysis software.
  • Use the Experiment Builder capabilities of LabScribe to present a Audio-Visual stimulus and record the EEG.
  • Integrates with external tools such as ePrime, OpenSesame, and PsychoPy.

The analysis capabilities of LabScribe can be extended by using various open source EEG analysis programs such as:

  • EEGLAB: An interactive MATLAB toolbox for processing continuous and event-related EEG, MEG and other electrophysiological data incorporating independent component analysis (ICA), time/frequency analysis, artifact rejection, event-related statistics, and several useful modes of visualization of the averaged and single-trial data.
  • SleepSMG: An open source MATLAB user interface for scoring sleep and comparing sleep scores across individuals.
