Poses That Reveal the Power of Proper Form
1. Mountain Pose
This pose looks like “just standing,” but proper form requires grounding through all four corners of the feet, having a neutral pelvis, engaging your quads, lift your chest, and have an aligned spine.
“Function” = standing upright. “Form” = stacking joints, engaging muscles, and creating stability.

2. Cat–Cow/Camel
Many people move only their shoulders or hips. Proper “Form” teaches segmental spinal movement, breath coordination, and core control.

3. Downward-Facing Dog
Many people force their heels down or collapse into their shoulders. Proper “Form” emphasizes the elongated spine, active hands, and lifted hips.

4. Warrior II
Most often people over-bend the front knee or twist the torso. Correct “Form” is the bent knee over the ankle, hips open, and arms level which creates strength and stability.

5. Child’s Pose
People assume this pose is universally comfortable. With proper “Form”, having support under your hips, knees, or chest—it becomes restorative and accessible.
Even “simple” poses require mindful setup to serve the body well.

In this lab you will:
- Demonstrate the pose with poor form then ask your students how it feels
- Demonstrate proper form have students try the pose again
- Discuss the difference: less depth, more benefit; less strain, more stability.
